Kudos: Fayetteville has been applauded by national publications including Business Week (2009 Best City in Arkansas and Best Small Cities for Startups); Forbes (2010 Best College Sports Towns and No. 4 in the 2009 Best Places for Business and Careers); Kiplinger’s (No. 7 in 2008 Best Places to Live, Work and Play); and AARP (Top 15 Places to Reinvent Your Life). In 2009, a Natural Resources Defense Council study ranked Fayetteville sixth of 650 small U.S. cities in terms of sustainable development.
What’s new: The former Radisson is under renovation and will become the Chancellor. It is downtown, within a block of Town Center, the city’s meeting facility. US Airways announced early this year that it will begin service from Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport to Reagan International in Washington.
Getting there: The region is served by Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport in Bentonville, 30 miles from Fayetteville, with flights to Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Memphis, Minneapolis, Newark and New York. I-540 links Fayetteville to I-44 and I-40.
Location: Fayetteville is in northwest Arkansas, 25 miles from Missouri and 20 miles from Oklahoma. The city is two hours from Branson, Mo., and Tulsa, Okla.; three hours from Little Rock, Ark., and four hours from Kansas City.
