It’s been more than 80 years since the sound of Rehoboth’s most famous dinner bell rang out for the first time just beyond the shores of Rehoboth Beach in Delaware. At the time, the bell was used each night to alert passersby and hungry patrons that the time had come to gather and feast at what was then known as the Dinner Bell Inn. Although the inn’s famous breakfasts and wine-and-cheese hour were open only to guests of the inn, dinner at Woody’s restaurant inside the inn was open to the public, and the inn began making a name for itself as the place to gather for celebrations in eastern Sussex County.

In 1999, a Rehoboth local family, the Moores, fell in love with the iconic property and purchased the inn, transforming this historic space into a luxury boutique hotel with 78 rooms and suites and more than 3,000 square feet of elegant meeting space. Under the new owners’ guidance, the Bellmoor Inn and Spa officially opened in 2003, just two blocks from the beach and within walking distance of the best shopping, dining and nightlife in the town. Even after a gorgeous renovation in May 2018, the inn is still known for the lavish complimentary breakfasts served each morning for guests. The inn’s warm hospitality and luxury amenities keep guests coming back.

Guests booking the Bellmoor Club Level Suites have access to amenities like gas fireplaces, hydrotherapy jet tubs and private balconies; other suites in the inn feature apartment-style accommodations with full kitchens and sitting areas for entertaining. The Gardener’s Cottage offers an unusual chance to sleep among the manicured grounds of the inn in a two-story house that was once the residence of the former hotel’s groundskeeper. During spring and summer, the garden is in bloom with beautiful crepe myrtles, Japanese camellias and sweet-smelling Daphne shrubs and azaleas.

The iconic dinner bell still sits on the property, a silent reminder of the inn’s proud culinary past and a symbol for the future of the inn as a home for memorable stays, meetings and celebrations.

Meeting Spaces

The Bellmoor Inn and Spa boasts more than 3,000 square feet of elegant meeting space divided among four different meeting rooms, each featuring natural light. The Delaware Room measures 1,400 square feet and is the largest venue at the inn with space for up to 100 people. The Sussex and Kent rooms, each for up to 50 people, are 700-square-foot spaces that are suitable for corporate meetings or intimate events. The Rosewood Executive Boardroom, with 285 square feet overlooking the garden, can hold up to 10 people and is the most intimate space at the inn.

Catering

Breakfast is complimentary each morning for overnight guests, and fresh-baked pastries, freshly squeezed juices and a made-to-order omelet station help get the day off to a good start. Meeting and event guests have the flexibility to enjoy catering through any restaurant of their choosing, but the Bellmoor Inn and Spa’s events team highly recommends Big Fish Market to provide catering services. Guests rave about Big Fish Market’s lobster mac-and-cheese and jumbo lump crab cakes, but its custom taco bar offers a fun option, with two tacos per guest. Whether guests would like to bring in their own alcohol or purchase it through the caterer, they are welcome to imbibe while on the premises.

Extras

Every meeting space at the Bellmoor Inn and Spa offers the advantage of catering services, overnight accommodations and office supplies. Event guests can choose from a range of meeting equipment at the inn that includes a podium, a microphone and sound system, easels and large presentation charts. All Bellmoor guests can partake in the complimentary afternoon refreshments, like fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese icing. Guests also have access to the Bellmoor Day Spa, where a number of restorative and relaxing treatments await. The Bellmoor shuttle affords guests the convenience of a trip to and from the boardwalk from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Off-Site

There are a variety of fun and entertaining activities in which to participate during a meeting or event in Rehoboth Beach. Summers in this Delaware town are spent on the water, where paddleboards and jet skis float atop the Atlantic Ocean as surfers paddle out farther to catch larger waves. The mile-long Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk is a great stretch of restaurants, shops and group activities like escape rooms and scenic tours, and Cape Henlopen State Park and Delaware Seashore State Park are wonderful for enjoying the gorgeous Delaware weather during any season. Book a tee time through the Bellmoor Inn and Spa to gain access to the best golf courses in the area.
