Wilmington, N.C.’s Newest Convention Center Hotel Officially Breaks Ground

WILMINGTON, North Carolina — A full-service Embassy Suites, located adjacent to the Wilmington Convention Center, officially broke ground at a ceremony hosted by Harmony Hospitality. With the construction of the new Embassy Suites Wilmington Downtown Hotel, meeting and convention attendees will have the option of staying at a hotel adjacent to the convention center and within walking distance of Wilmington’s historic river district. Grand opening for the Embassy Suites is scheduled for spring of 2017.

“This is great news for the city of Wilmington; we have been anxiously awaiting a hotel next to the convention center since it opened in late 2010,” said Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo. “The new Embassy Suites will allow us to satisfy demand for larger groups in the downtown area and in on-site accommodations from a wider variety of groups and conventions that may not have considered us before now.”

The Embassy Suites will offer 186 two-room guest suites. The hotel will consist of 162,866 square feet total, 6,600 square feet of which will be meeting space. The first floor will feature an indoor pool and fitness center, a snack/coffee area and an atrium with seating, as well as a ballroom and prefunction space. The second floor will include a riverfront restaurant, a boardroom and three small meeting spaces. There will also be a 4,003-square-foot roof deck and bar.

Construction of the Embassy Suites is one of many Wilmington developments on tap for 2016 that will create a convention center district with several new hotels and restaurants, retail, an event pier, a riverfront park and a marina. A neighboring 92-room Hampton Inn is scheduled to open later this year.

The new Embassy Suites hotel and the Wilmington Convention Center are both located within walking distance of Wilmington’s historic river district, which features more than 200 restaurants, shops and attractions in the downtown area. Attendees can also take time to explore and relax with their toes in the sand while taking advantage of the building’s proximity to three island beaches: Carolina Beach, Kure Beach and Wrightsville Beach. The area is currently home to nearly 8,000 hotel rooms and suites in a variety of settings such as Wilmington’s downtown Riverwalk and the sea.

The Embassy Suites Wilmington Downtown Hotel is owned and managed by Harmony Hospitality, Inc., of Virginia Beach, Virginia. For more information on the project, visit www.embassysuiteswilmington.com.
