For less-strenuous pursuits, near Canaan Valley Resort and Conference Center, the nearby small towns of Davis and Thomas, W.Va., have quirky shops and restaurants.
Siriani’s Pizza, in Davis, was chosen one of the 51 best pizza parlors in the country in a USA Today poll. Hellbenders makes burritos the size of small footballs. And the town ice cream shop has no name because the owner and his wife just haven’t agreed on one yet.
In Thomas, once a booming coal town, there’s a microbrewery, a gallery that sells West Virginia-made items, a small stretch of shops and galleries along the river and the Purple Fiddle, a local hangout with music almost every night.
