Why meet in Dubuque, Iowa?

We asked two planners the following question. See what they had to say!

Question: What makes Dubuque stand out as a meetings destination?

“It’s more affordable than other communities in Iowa and in the Midwest,” said Kristi Hetland, Director of Global Accounts for HelmsBriscoe. “The venues have been easy to work with – they truly WANT our business, and the CVB is an awesome and hands-on resource.”

“Dubuque has great meeting space close to wonderful hotel accommodations for our annual conference,” stated Holly Mueggenberg, Member Programs Director for the Iowa Association of Business & Industry. “In addition, Dubuque has many unique tour opportunities to add experiences to our agenda that our attendees have come to expect.”

Thank you, Kristi and Holly, for your kind words! Working with planners to ensure that the best event is planned for and that all attendees have an excellent experience in the community is the goal of the team at Travel Dubuque.

“It is so much fun to be a part of the planning team to ensure that everything goes perfectly for events in our community,” commented Julie Kronlage, Vice President of Sales of Travel Dubuque. “When you hear from attendees after the conference that they will be back with family and friends, or that they have extended their stay for an extra day, or that the meeting planner completed a successful event with no issues, it puts the biggest smile on my face!”

State, regional, and national conferences choose Dubuque because of they see the value in working with a community that works together. When the Regional Aquatics Workshop, a national conference, was looking for a location for their 2023 conference; hotels, attractions, and the Grand River Center team came together to put together an amazing opportunity for attendees flying in to attend the event.  The conference will be in Dubuque in May of 2023.

When the Great Lakes Chapter of the American Airport Executives conference, a regional conference, looked at Dubuque, originally in 2020, they saw the standout opportunities for the families that travel with their conference to stay entertained for three days with jam-packed activities, while conference education took place. The group will be in Dubuque in July of 2023, after being rescheduled due to COVID.
