Travelers Share Views of Air Rewards Programs

Road warriors shared what they love and hate about frequent flyer miles or points programs in a recent study released by MileCards.com, a rewards comparison website. More than 60 percent of people currently using an airline rewards program reported satisfaction with their program.

However, 28 percent said they aren’t satisfied, with 10 percent reporting they believe the mileage programs are worthless. The number one complaint is that their miles or points are too costly.

Another 31 percent lamented that award miles and points expire, while 26 percent complained that miles are getting harder to earn.

Mileage programs have been changing recently from awarding flight miles based on distance traveled to awarding them based on ticket cost.

Other surveys by MileCards have found that Southwest flyers are most likely among U.S. carriers to be using miles. The 12 percent of revenue passenger miles flown on Southwest in 2015 purchased with awards miles compares to the 7.5 percent of flyers on United, the second place airline.
