EMPORIA, Kan. — NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer is used to moving fast, so he found the slower-than-expected completion of a community building he funded in his hometown a little frustrating. As Bowyer told the Emporia newspaper, “I’m still new to building things. It seems like those things are never on schedule or on budget.”

Still, the Bowyer Community Building moved faster than many projects, opening 10 months after work began.

Built of native stone, wood timbers, stained concrete and glass, the 6,000-square-foot facility sits on the Lyon County Fairgrounds and is being marketed for small conferences and meetings.

Outfitted with a catering kitchen, a bar and restrooms, the center also has a 7,500-square-foot outdoor area that is partially covered. Overhead doors open from the building to the space, where guests can gather around a fire pit in cool weather.
