PRINCEVILLE, Hawaii— The newly renovated 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay – formerly St. Regis Princeville Resort – on the Hawaiian island of Kauai is now accepting reservations as the property prepares to open in February.
Starwood Capital Group bought the hotel in 2018, and it became part of its 1 Hotels and Resorts brand. SH Hotels & Resorts, Starwood’s hotel management company, then operated the property until closing it in 2020 in preparation for a massive, $250 million renovation, according to a November 12 Travel Weekly article.
The new property will offer 252 guest rooms and suites, a wellness center covering nearly 8,000 square feet, an 18,000-square-foot spa and fitness center, as well as renovated pools, including a new adult pool with tropical views. The property boasts over 29,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including five indoor and five outdoor spaces. For meetings and events, the property offers state-of-the-art technology, turnkey event planning and custom menus.
The hotel sits on a steep hillside that delivers panoramic views of Hanalei Bay and the island’s surrounding valleys, mountains and waterfalls. In renovating the hotel, the design intended to blur the line between interior and exterior. A large portion of the existing lobby was removed to make room for a tropical garden interwoven with water and fire elements. The open lobby bar is essentially a covered outdoor space featuring low-level native plantings and a central bar to divide it into various smaller intimate areas.
The interior-exterior blend continues throughout the public spaces by using folding and sliding glass doors that fully open, focusing all furniture groups outward toward the surrounding views, and filling spaces with lush plantings. In the guestrooms, the design is centered on highlighting the view from every angle in the room.
Reservations are being taken now for dates starting in February. For more information, visit 1hotels.com/hanalei-bay.
