Keep in mind: An exit off Interstate 71 (Exit 55) that opened four years ago shaves about 15 minutes off the drive from Dayton, Columbus, or Cincinnati, Ohio; and Lexington or Louisville, Ky. The resort is seven minutes from the exit.

Kudos: Golfweek ranked the resort’s Tom Fazio-design course among the top 20 casino golf courses in the United States in 2007. Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse received the Reader’s Choice award for Best Steakhouse in Casino Player Magazine.

Rooms: The hotel has 300 guest rooms in its original hotel and 300 in a hotel tower that opened in 2004.

Meeting space:
The property has more than 50,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space. A 10,625-square-foot divisible ballroom opens to the outdoor pool; there are five other meeting rooms and two boardrooms. CenterStage, where there are live shows most weekends, can be used for trade shows, dinners, receptions and other events. The top of the riverboat casino, overlooking the Ohio River, can be booked for social events.

Amenities: A riverboat casino is attached to the hotel and offers slot machines and table games on its two floors. The resort’s Fazio-design golf course winds through lakes and more than 2,200 trees. A full-service spa offers everything from massages and facials to manicures and hairstyling. Seven food options include Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse, a buffet, a golf course bar, a Starbucks and a Ben and Jerry’s Scoop Shop. A half-dozen shops sell everything from jewelry and women’s clothing to floral bouquets.

Location: Belterra is in southeastern Indiana, less than an hour southwest of Cincinnati; slightly more than an hour from Louisville, Ky.; and less than a two-hour drive from Indianapolis. The casino is five minutes from the Kentucky Speedway.
