What’s new: In 2009, its 100th year of operation, the hotel completed an $11 million renovation and as a result of changes made the hotel achieved LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification in 2010, making Boone Tavern the state’s greenest hotel.

Kudos: Boone Tavern is a member of Historic Hotels of America and the Green Hotels Association. The hotel is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Rooms: Built in 1909 as the college’s guest house with 25 guest rooms, Boone Tavern today has 63 guest rooms decorated with cherry, oak and pine furniture made by students of Berea College, which owns the property. The hotel is managed by Cornerstone Hotel Management of Atlanta.

Meeting space:
About 3,000 square feet of meeting space includes the 1,520-square-foot Coyle Gathering Room, the 851-square-foot Skylight Room and the 483-square-foot Nutting Lounge. The 2,214-square-foot dining room can also be used for private events. .

Location: Boone Tavern is on College Square, in downtown Berea and next to the campus of Berea College. Berea is two miles east of Interstate 75. It is 45 minutes south of Lexington, Ky.; two hours south of Cincinnati; and about two hours north of Knoxville, Tenn.
