What’s new:
A private developer plans to build a Crowne Plaza hotel and a conference center on a tract of land one mile from downtown. The city is no longer pursuing a downtown conference center, but the Casper Downtown Development Authority hopes to save a piece of the plan: a public plaza on the southwest corner of West Yellowstone Highway and South David Street. The space would be available for public and private events.

Hotel rooms: Casper has 2,600 guest rooms, including those in five full-service hotels.

Location: Casper is 180 miles north of Cheyenne — a two-and-a-half-hour drive — and is situated nearly at the center of Wyoming. Casper is also about halfway between Denver and Billings, Mont., 280 miles from each.

Getting there: United, Delta and Allegiant airlines serve the Casper-Natrona County International Airport, and United and Frontier fly into the Cheyenne Regional Airport. Great Lakes Airlines has daily service from Denver International Airport, about a four-hour drive from Casper.
