What’s new: The 92-room Courtyard Hagerstown opened in 2010 in a cluster of hotels and restaurants along Interstate 81 west of Hagerstown. The older but larger Ramada Plaza was recently renovated. The Holiday Inn Express Hagerstown began a $1 million upgrade in September. East of town, the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center completed a $5 million renovation in 2009.

The Hagerstown Hotel and Convention Center changed hands in April 2011 and is now managed by GF Management of Philadelphia. The Grand Venice Hotel has added a pool and deck area for events. A new glass atrium at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts is available for events. Knob Hall Winery plans to include event space in a barn that it will begin renovating this month.

Rooms: Hagerstown has nearly 2,000 guest rooms and about 80,000 square feet of meeting space. Newer chain hotels are clustered west of the city along I-81; older hotels with more meeting space are along the Dual Highway east of Hagerstown.

Getting there:
Hagerstown, in western Maryland, is 75 minutes from Baltimore and Washington, 1.5 hours from Harrisburg, Pa., and 3.5 hours from Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Interstates 81 and 70 intersect here. Hagerstown Regional Airport has several Cape Air flights each day to and from Baltimore/Washington International Airport.
