What’s new:
The Overton Hotel and Conference Center opened in 2009 with 303 guest rooms and more than 20,000 square feet of meeting space. Lubbock is in the second year of a 20-year redevelopment project. The former Lubbock Inn was gutted and is now the Baymont Inn and Suites. The Lubbock Memorial Civic Center has renovated its theater’s stage floor and improved energy efficiency. The National Ranching Heritage Center opened a 4,000-square-foot addition in October; a new gallery can be used for meetings. A $25 million expansion at the Jones AT&T Stadium at Texas Tech University provides additional function space. The Buddy Holly statue was recently moved to the plaza outside the Buddy Holly Center. A new clubhouse is being built at Texas Tech’s golf course.

Lubbock has more than 5,000 hotel rooms.

Location: Lubbock is located on the South Plains of west Texas, about 125 miles south of Amarillo and 345 miles west of Dallas.

Getting there: Four major airlines – American Eagle, Continental, Delta and Southwest – serve Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport.Interstate Highway 27 intersects Lubbock north/south with U.S. highways 87,84 and 62/82 and State Road 114 intersect the city in a hublike fashion.
