What’s new: The MeadowView Marriott Conference Resort and Convention Center renovated its 195 guest rooms and added 110 new ones in 2009; it will add 22,000 square feet of meeting space in 2010. Bristol Motor Speedway renovated a number of its suites. Gray Fossil Site Natural History Museum and Visitor Center is adding 7,000 square feet to its existing facility, which will double its meeting capacity from 300 to 600. The Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites Bristol Convention Center has completed a $3 million renovation. The 1902 Bristol Train Station has been renovated into a meeting space for up to 400 for a reception.

Rooms: Bristol has 226 guest rooms, Kingsport has 1,500, and Johnson City, 1,900.
Location: The Tri-Cities area, which includes Johnson City, Kingsport and Bristol, Tenn., and Va., is in the northeast corner of Tennessee, 45 minutes from North Carolina. The area is about 90 miles from Asheville, N.C.; 166 miles from Charlotte; 265 miles from Raleigh; 315 miles from Atlanta; and 376 from Washington.

Getting There: The Tri-Cities is near the intersection of Interstates 81 and 26. Tri-Cities Regional Airport serves northeast Tennessee, southwest Virginia, western North Carolina and eastern Kentucky. Daily nonstop flights are offered to six hubs (Atlanta, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Detroit, Memphis and Orlando) on Delta Connection, Northwest Airlink and US Airways Express.
