What’s new: A convention center and convention hotel are in the planning stages. Five hotels have opened in the past five years; most notably for meetings is the  Hilton Garden Inn Tyler. The city renovated Liberty Hall, a 1930s movie theater, and reopened it in September 2011. Lago del Pino, a two-story restaurant set on a lake west of Tyler, opened in April.

Hotel rooms: There are 2,600 guest rooms in Tyler. Most meeting hotels are clustered on the south side of town. Budget hotels are clustered on the northwest side of the city.

Location: Tyler is in northeast Texas, about 90 miles east of Dallas and 90 miles west of Shreveport, La.

Getting there: Tyler Pounds Regional Airport is served by American Eagle and United Express. The closest major airport is Dallas/Fort Worth International, about 120 miles west. Most people in the region drive to Tyler. It is south of Interstate 20. U.S. Highway 69 bisects downtown Tyler.
