What’s new: A $17.5 million redo and expansion of the Waco Convention Center wrapped up in July. Construction has begun on Baylor University’s new riverfront football stadium in East Waco.
The 111-room Hotel Indigo recently opened near Baylor’s main entrance. The 195-room Hilton Waco completed an $18 million renovation last summer. Waco and its neighbors — Bellmead, McGregor and Hewitt — have teamed up in a regional marketing effort called Waco and the Heart of Texas.
Rooms: Waco has a total of 3,525 hotel rooms, with 2,308 of those within the city limits.
Location: Waco is halfway between Dallas/Fort Worth and Austin, about 90 minutes from each. About 80 percent of the state is within a three-hour drive.
Getting there: Interstate 35 skirts the city, linking it to Austin and Dallas. The Waco Regional Airport is 15 minutes from most parts of town and offers flights to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport aboard American Eagle.
