Rooftop solar panels that will provide about 30 percent of its electricity are among the center’s green initiatives. The Starlux Hotel hopes to open a 100-room addition with meeting space by 2014. Morey’s Piers will cater picnics for groups at a private beachfront pavilion and will open four new rides this summer, including a 50-foot-high water slide.
Location: Four towns (North Wildwood, Wildwood Crest, Wildwood and West Wildwood) share a five-mile-long island near the southern tip of the New Jersey shore.

This year, TripAdvisor.com included the Wildwoods on its list of “15 Destinations on the Rise.”
