What’s new: The Wildwoods Convention Center now offers free Wi-Fi  throughout the building. Rooftop solar panels that will provide about 30 percent of its electricity are among the center’s green initiatives. The Starlux Hotel hopes to open a 100-room addition with meeting space by 2014. Morey’s Piers will cater picnics for groups at a private beachfront pavilion and will open four new rides this summer, including a 50-foot-high water slide.

Location:
Four towns (North Wildwood, Wildwood Crest, Wildwood and West Wildwood) share a five-mile-long island near the southern tip of the New Jersey shore.

Rooms: There are 8,000 guest rooms and 3,000 condominiums available. Many rooms are in family-oriented motels.

Recognitions:
Wildwoods’ beaches have been voted New Jersey’s best in a statewide poll every year but one since 2008. Its boardwalk was rated No. 1 for families by familyvacationcritic.com in 2012, and in 2011 it was ranked one of the top 10 U.S. boardwalks by National Geographic Traveler. This year, TripAdvisor.com included the Wildwoods on its list of “15 Destinations on the Rise.”
