There’s never a lack of things to do in the San Francisco Bay region. “We find our scenic beauty is a draw for religious groups. They love to be close to nature and tend to be contemplative,” said Anne LeClair, president and CEO of the San Mateo/Silicon Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau. LeClair’s bureau markets the peninsula that lies across the bay from the city of San Francisco.
In San Mateo County, visitors enjoy proximity to a world-class city but with a little less hustle and bustle.
“We’re on the San Francisco peninsula sandwiched between San Francisco and San Jose, which makes us an ideal central location for any group. San Francisco is just minutes away,” said Teipo Brown, director of convention sales.
Groups can cruise the bay, hike trails along the Pacific Ocean, tour numerous coastal towns and see giant redwoods in county parks.
There are historic homes and estates to explore. Sanchez Adobe in Pacifica, originally a Native American village, was later a mission farm. Filoli, a house listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has 16 acres of formal gardens to stroll.
The Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University in Palo Alto has the world’s second-largest Rodin sculpture collection.
Museums detail the histories of computers and aviation. Sports enthusiasts can watch a San Francisco Giants baseball game or a Golden State Warriors basketball game.
