Beauty in Baton Rouge: Shaw Center for the Arts

A Tasteful Palate

Although the Shaw Center does not provide in-house catering, planners can contract one of the three Shaw Center for the Arts restaurants, including Tsunami, Stroubes or Capital City Grill. Planners may also work with a licensed and insured caterer of their choice for events or choose from one of the recommended vendors for the center. Certain areas of the center have food and beverage restrictions based on the artwork on display, and alcohol is permitted through the Manship Theatre Beverage Service for all events at the Manship Theatre and the River Terrace. Events serving alcohol in all other venues must contract with an approved vendor that meets current liquor-licensing requirements of the state of Louisiana.

Extras

Events at venues within the Shaw Center offer an artistic flair that is an exciting departure from traditional rental options. The planning team encourages unconventional ideas and out-of-the-box thinking among clients. The center offers several entertainment options open to the public and meeting guests. Before and after events, guests can saunter through the art galleries, grab a drink at the Jones-Walker Foyer Bar, peruse the gift shop or simply take in the views at one of the two rooftop terraces. Depending on the installation and performance schedule, guests may get tickets to a show in the Manship or Hartley/Vey theaters, or check out the latest visual-art installation at the LSU Museum of Art.

Off-Site Entertainment

Thanks to the Shaw Center’s central location in the heart of downtown Baton Rouge, guests are able to easily venture off the property to get a better feel for the surrounding area during breaks and make it back in time for any planned meetings. The area surrounding the building bustles with an active city nightlife, so guests desiring to branch out beyond the facility have several lodging, dining and entertainment options within walking distance. Some of the most popular destinations are the Old Governor’s Mansion and the St. Joseph Cathedral.
