Boutique Hotel The George Opens in Georgetown, South Carolina

GEORGETOWN, South Carolina  — The George Hotel, the highly anticipated property from Indigo Road Hospitality Group and Winyah Hospitality, is now open and welcoming guests in Georgetown, South Carolina. Aiming to redefine luxury accommodations in the region, the waterfront property features 56 thoughtfully appointed rooms and suites, a full-service restaurant, amarina bar and private event spaces.

A common stopover for boaters traveling the eastern coast, The George offers prime marina access, allowing boaters to enjoy the hotel’s amenities while providing a port for guest excursions, such as fishing and sailing in Winyah Bay. In addition to on-site activities and events, The George offers a variety of spaces that can be booked for semi-private and private events, including a dedicated meeting and event room; Eliza’s, an outdoor greenspace and bar; and The Independent, an on-site restaurant.

Elegant Event Spaces

The George offers a variety of event spaces that embrace the property’s waterfront location. The Indigo Room overlooks the marina and event lawn and can accommodate banquets for 65 guests or theater-style seminars for up to 125 people. Outside the Indigo Room, the covered Event Patio can host a cocktail reception for up to 100 guests.

Spanning 2,483 square feet, Dockside Lawn is available for an alfresco dinner for up to 160 guests or for cocktail receptions for up to 200 people. The 2,300-square-foot River View Lawn can host 160 guests for seated events and 200 for receptions.

Groups of 75 can gather for cocktails at the hotel’s reception-ready Outdoor Bar. The Independent’s bar and main dining room are also available for full restaurant buyout, offering 1,400 square feet for a private dinner for up to 55 guests or a reception for up to 85.

Bold and Bespoke Early American Design

The hotel features 56 rooms, 42 of which are water-facing. Accommodations are inspired by the area’s 18th- and 19th-century architecture and the natural environment. The hotel houses an eclectic collection of vintage European furnishings, custom pieces and hand-selected details.

There are several room types, including two suite variations with living rooms and balconies, the largest being approximately 725 square feet. Each guest room includes vintage seating and sideboards with custom fabric headboards and details that recall early American style. Rooms vary in color scheme while cypress softwoods stripe the floors and walls of communal spaces.

From Pier to Plate

Located within The George Hotel, The Independent is an ingredient-driven, seafood restaurant and raw bar showcasing the Lowcountry’s local fishermen, farmers and purveyors. Led by Executive Chef Thomas Vance, The Independent offers a seasonal menu of Southern-inspired dishes guided by the region’s bounty of fresh seafood. Raw offerings, like little neck clams, peel-and-eat shrimp and oysters on the half shell, are complemented by prepared small plates, chef selections and a-la-carte proteins and sides.

Outside, guests will find Eliza’s. Located on The George’s greenspace, the waterfront bar is a casual retreat along the picturesque Sampit Riverfront with a full bar, lounge seating and outdoor games. Eliza’s island-inspired cocktails are complemented by its small menu of light bites, snacks and the full raw bar.
