Business travelers want health-friendly hotels

Many business travelers report that staying healthy while traveling can be tricky. In a survey of 200 business travelers by KRC Research for Omni Hotels, 56 percent said they had indulged in food and drink while traveling and later regretted it.

About 56 percent said they wish hotel restaurant menus had more low-fat options. Business travelers would also prefer less fattening options for in-room snacks. Seventy-three percent wanted healthier in-room snacks and 70 percent wanted bottled water available in rooms.

Many also claimed to have trouble staying active while traveling. One-third said they usually pack workout gear but never had the time or energy to exercise. Omni Hotels has responded by offering “Get Fit Rooms.” For $15, the hotel will bring a treadmill, two-pound dumbbells, an exercise mat, stretch cords, a bottle or water and a mini radio headset to a guest’s room.

The business people surveyed traveled at least six times a year and spent $150 or more a night on hotels. For more information, read the L.A. Times article.
