Chateau Elan Winery: French with a Southern accent

Georgia’s largest winery
The winery, a miniature of the inn, sits among fields of grapevines.

It is Georgia’s largest, and in addition to the expected tastings and tours, it is packed with potential event venues — an upstairs room with a balcony that looks out over vineyards; an art gallery; the Cask Room, which is filled with wooden wine barrels; and the Wine Market, a combination tasting room and retail shop. There’s also a casual Mediterranean bistro, a fine-dining French restaurant and a Viking demonstration kitchen for scheduled classes, corporate team-building classes and private events.

“We can accommodate up to 35 people in the culinary studio,” said Bradley Czajka, executive chef. “The typical class size is about 12.”

The school has a few standard events, such as Impersonating a Chef and the Team Building Cooking Class, but groups can customize.

“For example, we have done a version of Chopped and Iron Chef where the group’s challenge was to take mystery ingredients and turn them into dishes. Both had to finish preparing the meal in two hours, and then they were judged,” he said.

“We get all different levels of cooks,” said Czajka. “Some have been cooking for years, while others are new to it. The chef is always on hand to help when needed. We want this to be a fun, bonding process for everyone, no matter their skill level.”

Another team-building event at the winery is Wanna Be a Winemaker, where participants create and brand their own wines and try to “sell” them to the group.
