Evansville Breaks Ground on New Convention Hotel

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – On March 10, officials broke ground for the construction of a 257-room Hilton DoubleTree hotel to fill the need left when the Evansville’s Executive Inn closed five years ago. The downtown hotel will connect to the Old National Events Plaza, formerly known as the Centre, which sits next door.

Officials estimate to complete the 257-room hotel by the second half of 2015. The $71.2 million development includes the hotel, an apartment complex and a parking garage.

The property will also contain a restaurant on ground level and a bar on its top floor.

“The groundbreaking is yet another important milestone for this project and our local work force is eager to begin construction,” said Evansville Mayor, Lloyd Winnecke. “The 257-room hotel will put our city back on the map for convention business, as well as spur additional downtown development.”

The 28,000-square-foot Old National Events Plaza contains a 2,500-square-foot auditorium and 38,000-square-foot exhibit hall, as well as other meeting rooms and spaces.
