Expansion of Sheraton hotel begins in Frisco

FRISCO, Texas — The Sheraton Stonebriar Hotel broke ground in late May for a long-planned $10 million expansion that will add 51 guest rooms, more meeting space, a new pool and a concierge lounge.

“We’ve been thinking about this expansion since 2008, but the timing wasn’t right until now,” said Craig Sundell, general manager. “Even though the economy stalled us from moving forward with the complete vision of our hotel, the Sheraton Stonebriar staff didn’t let that stop us from focusing on world-renowned service.”

The hotel has been rated the top hotel among all Sheratons for guest satisfaction.

The 119-room property is on state Highway 121, about 20 miles northeast of the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, near commercial development and business parks along the Dallas North Tollway.

Phase II is expected to open by September 2014. When complete, the Sheraton will have 6,500 square feet of meeting space. Its health club will also be expanded.

“As a growing tourist and convention destination, Frisco is in need of more hotel rooms,” said Marla Roe, executive director of the Frisco Convention and Visitors Bureau. “The expansion of the Sheraton Stonebriar Hotel will meet the needs of more travelers coming to Frisco for business during the week and those staying on the weekend to check out Frisco’s sports venues, quality dining and shopping.”

The hotel opened in early 2008. Amenities include a business center, complimentary Internet access in guest rooms, a 24-hour fitness center and access to the facilities at its sister hotel, the 301-room Westin Stonebriar.

That hotel has 24,000 square feet of conference space, a fitness center, a pool and golf privileges at a Tom Fazio golf course. A shuttle transports guests from one hotel to the other.
