Experience Lubbock Like a Local (Sponsored)

Experience Lubbock as a local with live music, artistic expression and signature crafts.

LUBBOCK LIBATIONS

Lubbock’s signature cocktail, affectionately known as “The Chilton,” is a tart, refreshing sip made with vodka, lemon juice, and club soda. Several local spots put their special twist on this well-known beverage. Try The West Table’s Grapefruit Chilton, a Cucumber Chilton at Chimy’s Cerveceria, or the original Chilton at Cafe J.

For those who prefer a glass of vino, savor a glass of Sangiovese, Montepulciano or another varietal smitten with the West Texas climate. The region grows 85 percent of Texas wine grapes.

Looking for a local brew? The Brewery LBK serves craft beers like a Smoked Pineapple Ale or a Nitro Stout. And, in the arts district Two Docs Brewing Co. offers selections such as Buddy Hoppy IPA and the Prairie Dog Porter.

“LIVE” IN THE 806

An authentic High Plains sound is often noted as the hallmark of musicians from West Texas. Most notably, music legend Buddy Holly ushered in a new era of rock ‘n’ roll from right here in Lubbock. Following Buddy’s legacy, the area produces talent known to disrupt the industry and inspire ingenuity. With more live music venues per capita than any other city in Texas, Lubbock sets the stage every night of the week for music lovers to hear the sound of the “Hub City.”

A few of the venues to check out during your visit are The Blue Light, Charley B’s, Cactus Theater, and local eateries like La Diosa Cellars, Triple J Chophouse & Brew Co., The Funky Door Bistro & Wine Room, and more.

ART IN THE LBK

Just like music, Lubbock artists attribute their creativity to the wide open spaces of the South Plains. The seclusion clears the noise, provokes thought and provides inspiration.

The best way to get a glimpse into the art scene in Lubbock is at First Friday Art Trail. On the first Friday of every month, galleries open their doors for thousands of visitors to browse the creative exhibits at LHUCA, Charles Adams Gallery, The Charles Adams Studio Project, and more.

And, Texas Tech University is home to one of the Top 10 University Public Art Collections in the Nation, named by Public Art Review. This collection includes more than 100 pieces throughout the campus with detailed information for each piece available on the ArTTrek App.
