This past May, the historic Mountain Lake Hotel, film site for the movie “Dirty Dancing,” reopened as Mountain Lake Lodge after a multimillion-dollar renovation that added a new restaurant and tavern and spiffed up lodge rooms. Set on 2,600 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the resort is 60 miles from Roanoke.
A 43-room Main Lodge, a smaller lodge, cabins and cottages house guests. For a corporate retreat, a group of nine mountain homes has a total of 24 keyed bedrooms that surround a conference center.
“One of our spaces, Mary’s Barn, has a huge covered patio and beer garden that sets a relaxed tone for a welcome barbecue reception,” said Heidi Stone, director of sales and marketing.
The great outdoors rules there, with two new team-building resources. Mountain Lake Outfitters offers hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, geocaching, archery, tubing and stand-up paddleboarding. Guides can teach groups to fly-fish, target shoot, raft and canoe. Mountain Lake Treetop Adventures has a zip line and high ropes courses for several skill levels.
