GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A new ballroom at the Gaithersburg Marriott Washingtonian Center will take advantage of the hotel’s position on a small lake in this Washington, D.C., suburb.

The 2,700-square-foot Lakeside Ballroom will feature floor-to-ceiling windows and a private terrace that overlooks the lake, which is also an anchor for the Rio Washingtonian Center shopping, dining and entertainment complex, a short walk from the 284-room hotel. Work began on the project in November and will be completed this month.

“The new ballroom embraces the natural beauty that surrounds Gaithersburg Marriott. When the Lakeside Ballroom is completed, no other venue in the region will rival its sophisticated charm and exclusive amenities,” said Sara Moore, general manager.

The meeting space will flow from a 672-square-foot prefunction space to the ballroom and out to the 2,000-square-foot terrace. Decor plays off nature with touches such as translucent petals that float in chandeliers, light-reflecting acrylic wall panels that ripple like water and three-dimensional artwork in a petal motif.

The hotel’s other meeting space is its largest, the 5,940-square-foot Washingtonian Ballroom.

The Marriott is located near offices of several governmental agencies, including the Department of Energy and the Food and Drug Administration. It is a 30-minute drive from Reagan International Airport and Dulles International Airport.
