DENISON, Texas – After five years of planning, officials officially broke ground on a new hotel and conference center on October 17. Officials expect the 120-room Hilton Garden Inn and Convention Center to open by Christmas of 2014.

The $26 million hotel and center will house 20,000 square feet of meeting space, including a ballroom that will hold up to 1,000 people.

Robert Brady, former Denison mayor, championed the hotel throughout the recession.

“We made sure people didn’t forget about the property and the potential it possesses,” said Brady.

“It’ll entice people to bring restaurants and other people, and it will really enhance this corner,” said Jared Johnson, current Denison mayor. “That was really the plan all along.”
