Ground Broken on Texas Convention Center Hotel

McALLEN, Texas – Shovels hit the earth to mark the start of construction on an Embassy Suites hotel that will be located on the grounds of the McAllen Convention Center. The six-story convention center hotel will offer full-service hotel amenities, including an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, spa, full service restaurant, ballroom and executive meeting rooms.

The $20 million project is expected to increase business to the convention center when it opens in early 2016. The 150-room hotel lies within walking distance of the convention center, as well as the nearby Palms Crossing retail shopping center.

“This great new hotel is a great business asset for McAllen and the Rio Grande Valley,” said McAllen mayor Jim Darling. “It’s the first major convention center hotel project south of San Antonio that puts the two together in one location.”
