Groundbreaking Held for Wilmington Hotel

WILMINGTON, N.C. – A new hotel to support the five-year-old Wilmington Convention Center broke ground on February 12. The 186-room Embassy Suites Hotel will sit between the convention center and the Cape Fear River.

“It’s been in the works for five years, so to see this happen today is great,” said Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo. “It’s just an accumulation of a lot of work over a long period of time and we are just happy it is finally here today.”

The hotel will feature a rooftop bar, fitness center, indoor pool, riverfront restaurant and 6,600 square feet of meeting space. Officials estimate the hotel will open in the spring of 2017.
