HARLINGEN, Texas – Potential meeting planners can now picture the $14.8 million convention center coming to Harlingen, Texas, thanks to released design details.
The 43,700-square-foot convention center will feature South Texas accents in its design, such as windows with tall arches. Other design highlights include a 30-foot-by-6-foot waterfall, 23-foot-high ceilings and twisting light fixtures hanging from beamed ceilings.
With a groundbreaking tentatively planned for April, the center will stand on eight acres in the Harlingen Height business district. A restaurant and attached Hilton Garden Inn are also in the works.
Officials envisioned the 17,100-square-foot main ballroom as the centerpiece for the center, which can hold as many as 1,500 people with the capacity to divide into smaller meeting areas.
