Iowa Meeting Guide: Lots new coming to Waterloo

• A $50 million redevelopment project in downtown Waterloo, the Green@TechWorks, will include a John Deere training center, an upscale hotel, a fine-dining restaurant, a showroom and office space. The project should open in 2013. It will be powered, in part, by a renewable energy system.

• A green development of another sort is the John Deere Tractor and Engine Museum. To open in 2013, it will be on the original site of the Waterloo Tractor Works, now the TechWorks campus.

• On breaks, attendees can visit a new community-owned market in downtown Waterloo, the RiverLoop Public Market Co-op, across from Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center. Open year-round, the market sells local fruits and vegetables, deli meats and cheeses, bulk foods  and specialty foods. A bakery and cafe serves lunch. The RiverLoop Expo Grounds has a large, paved and gated area for receptions and off-site events.
