Kalahari Coming to Round Rock

A hotel, conference center and water park destination will open in a new location in Round Rock, Texas. Kalahari Resorts and Conventions, a family resort company, already operates in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin; Sandusky, Ohio; and Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania.

The new location will feature up to 1,000 guest rooms, indoor and outdoor water parks and a convention center. The resort officials have also planned additional entertainment, recreation and other mixed uses for the 334 acres on the Highway 79 location.

Officials estimate the Round Rock Kalahari Resort will open in 2020. Plans call for a 200,000-square-foot indoor water park and a 150,000-square-foot convention center.

“We feel like this is a game changer, because the size of the convention center they’re speaking of,” said Ben White, vice president of economic development for the Round Rock Chamber. “We don’t have that in Williamson County or Round Rock. Now we’re becoming that business hub for Central Texas with this large convention center presence that will bring people from all over.”
