Team Building With a Twist
While Long Island offers planners their pick of type and location of venues for meetings and sleeping rooms, the island’s history and diverse landscape also set groups up for a wide range of team-building and evening activities — even without venturing into the city.
At the Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center, which is available for evening receptions, the staff has developed a “CSI”-style mystery game in which groups break into teams to figure out who murdered a prized fish while boning up on both pop forensics and marine biology.
The Cradle of Aviation, a museum and event space, focuses on one of the lesser-known sides of Long Island’s history. Charles Lindbergh left from nearby Roosevelt Field for his record-setting flight to Paris, the lunar module for the moon landing was built here, and countless Northrop Grumman fighter jets have been here. Groups who rent the facility for the evening can not only have the run of the museum’s displays exploring both the development of aviation and Long Island’s role in it, but also the planetarium and dome theater.
Bridging the day or evening event divide, Pole Position Raceway features grown-up go-karting. Groups get the chance to race in high-performance cars from Italy and compete amongst themselves to see who is the smoothest speed demon. Meeting and evening reception space is also available on-site.
