As we move into planning for 2021, Ohio’s Lake Erie Shores & Islands is ready to assist small groups with meeting safely in our convenient destination. With such popular group venues as Kalahari Resorts & Conventions, Sawmill Creek Resort, Camp Perry Conference Center, Lakeside Chautauqua, and more, the region is poised to welcome intimate meetings and smaller regional events to its popular destination. The Lake Erie Shores & Islands CVB is here to assist you with planning a safe and productive event for your group. Safety measures and cleanliness protocols have been put in place throughout the destination to ensure you can feel confident meeting at the coast.

2021 Outlook

Kalahari Resorts & Conventions is committed to doing what’s best for their guests and team. They want to ensure confidence in your event, so you can focus on your content and team-building without worry. Resort-wide wellness initiatives as well as staff safety training per CDC recommendations assure a seamless meeting plan. Throughout the convention center meeting room layouts have been reconfigured, rooms are sanitized frequently, and physical distancing is encouraged. Hybrid meetings are also an option considering the state-of-the art AV technologies in place at the resort. Food service now features house-packaged, single-use, or refillable options.

“As the safety and security of our guests continues to be Kalahari’s number one priority, our sales and convention service teams are working with our clients to provide a unique, and safe, meeting experience,” says Kalahari Director of Sales Jerry Simon. “Our ‘outside the box’ mentality has become vital as the meetings industry evolves into these uncharted waters.”

A slower-than usual 2020 provided Cedar Point-owned properties Castaway Bay and Sawmill Creek Lakeside Resort time to remodel and upgrade many of their resort features. Both properties recently underwent extensive renovations, including to main areas and guest rooms, in preparation of welcoming groups in 2021. Sawmill Creek Lakeside Resort will still feature the Tom Fazio-designed 18-hole golf course and several dining options. As both resorts look to reopen, guest safety and cleanliness protocols are at the forefront.

“Cedar Point is committed to providing a safe environment for all guests, whether it’s just for fun or for a group event/meeting. By partnering with health experts and following CDC guidelines, we’re ensuring that proper safety protocols are in place in all park areas, including meeting spaces, hotels and dining facilities,” says Cedar Point Director of Communications Tony Clark. “Cedar Point continues to be a great place to have fun together, safely.”

Lakeside Chautauqua has many new features to debut for groups meeting in the resort community in 2021. For example, a new food service partnership with Ward Catering and a new restaurant, Slack House Historic Café, opened in the fall of 2020. They have also updated group housing restrooms and renovated the Upper Pavilion Room as additional meeting space.

“Because of COVID-19, Lakeside has taken a new approach to events by utilizing outdoor venues and rethinking how we use spaces across the grounds,” said Lakeside Chautauqua Manager of Conference and Event Planning Emily Messino.
