Morgantown makes most of mountains

Tell me about some great places for off-site events.
• The Forks of Cheat Winery has an outdoor pavilion that overlooks the valley and vineyard.

• A large porch is a fun place for parties at Dorsey’s Knob Lodge.

• Groups can enjoy the river when they attend events at the amphitheater at Hazel Ruby McQuain Riverfront Park.

For a true taste of Morgantown …

Morgantown has no shortage of locally owned restaurants, and many have a long history. Colastante’s Ristorante and Pub has  been “the home of pizza and pasta perfection” since 1969.  Another longstanding eatery, the Boston Beanery, has six locations, two in its hometown of Morgantown. Homemade con queso dip, grilled sandwiches, hand-battered seafood, and marinated chicken entrees are among the choices.

For a healthy twist, Black Bear Burritos is where burritos cross many borders. For example, a jerk-style burrito is stuffed with grilled peppers, mango, coconut rice,   black beans and chicken, shrimp or tofu. For upscale occasions, dine on the porch at the fine old home that houses Cafe Bacchus, where entrees include a pork chop chargrilled with pickled peach relish over succotash.

Tell me about some extra-special services offered by the convention bureau.
The Greater Morgantown CVB launched two new services this year. Through its VIV (Very Important Visitor) Program, conference attendees receive wristbands that provide special deals and discounts at participating businesses. In July, the CVB’s Mobile Information Center hit the road. The recreational vehicle has been used to disseminate information at fairs, festivals and large conferences.
