New arena arrives in Bangor

Cross Insurance Center
BANGOR, Maine — The $65 million Cross Insurance Center had its soft opening in early June when it held a high school graduation; its true test comes in the fall, when it has its grand opening Sept. 10.
The arena can seat more than 8,000, with 5,000 fixed seats, 1,500 retractable seats and third-floor luxury boxes and club seating.
Its main ballroom will seat up to 1,100 for dinners and handle 85 tradeshow booths. It can be divided into as many as seven spaces.
The local newspaper described the arena as bright, airy, clean and comfortable with great acoustics. “It is everything the old Bangor Auditorium wasn’t,” the paper said. The Bangor Auditorium will be torn down and a parking lot will be put in its place by Sept. 1.
