New Sheraton to Join Mesa Hotel Lineup

Officials recently broke ground for the new full-service Sheraton Hotel Mesa. It will be adjacent to the new Cubs Park, part of the Chicago Cubs’ spring training facility, and the newly developed Riverview Park. The hotel is scheduled to open in January 2015, just ahead of baseball spring training.

The four-story, 180-room hotel will have a 26,000-square-foot conference center with a ballroom that will accommodate 1,500 people for meetings and events. There will be flexible indoor and outdoor function space. The property will also feature two restaurants, a sports bar, a resort-style pool, a spa and salon, a sundeck and a fitness center.

The area where the hotel is being built is nicknamed Wrigleyville West, in honor of the Cubs and their legion of fans who flock to sunny Mesa every February and March for the Cactus League Season.

“This is just the beginning of what we envision … will provide a great experience for Cubs fans and visitors throughout the year,” said Mesa mayor Scott Smith.

Once the developer, BCY, completes the hotel on the north side of the property, a second 150-room hotel could be built on the south side, according to Visit Mesa officials.
