Opal Sol Allows Pinellas County to Court Mid-Size Meeting Market

PORTSMOUTH, New Hampshire — When Opal Sol, the newest luxury resort on Clearwater Beach, Florida, opened in February, it opened Pinellas County to mid-size hotel groups for the first time, according to Visit St. Pete-Clearwater.

Offering the most meeting space in Pinellas County, the hotel is the sister property to Opal Sands. A skyway bridge connects the two hotels.  Opal Sol features 248 Gulf-front suites, multiple restaurants, a spa, three pools and 57,194 square feet of event space. Combined with Opal Sands, the sister properties offer a total of 106,000 square feet of meeting space.

Opal Sol’s largest event space is the 8,800-square-foot Solstice Ballroom, which can be separated into four smaller spaces and delivers spectacular views of Clearwater Beach and the Gulf of Mexico. The property also offers 6,455 square feet of pre-function space, a variety of breakout rooms and boardrooms, along with outdoor spaces such as a pool deck and pool event lawn.

Since opening, Opal Sol has hosted a variety of mid-sized groups, mostly corporate, averaging at least one per week, Spectrum News reported.

Opal Sol allows Pinellas County to expand into the mid-sized group market and retain many of the groups that came to the destination that “were on the verge of having to leave because they had gotten too big,” Nancy Cimney, Opal Collection Florida regional director of sales and marketing, told Spectrum News.
