The Otesaga Resort Hotel

Exploring Cooperstown

Located just off Route 80, the Otesaga Resort Hotel is a great jumping-off point for exploring Cooperstown. The hotel event staff can arrange private tours of the city’s main sights, which include the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, the Fenimore Art Museum and the Ommegang Brewery. There’s even a downtown trolley system that makes it easy to get around the city to explore the sights, shopping and history.

History

Listed as one of the prestigious Historic Hotels of America, the resort has a timeless ambiance. The groundwork was laid when Edward Clark of Singer sewing machine fame moved to the city and became one of Coopertown’s greatest benefactors. His grandsons, Edward Severin Clark and Stephen Edward Clark, loved their hometown and had a vision to turn the property along Lake Otsego into a world-class resort for visitors and locals. The property and golf course were both completed in 1909 and have since played host to numerous major league baseball stars in town for Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.

Exploring the Resort

Guests at the Otesaga Resort Hotel never need to leave the property to find something that interests them. The hotel is a beacon of entertainment, with live music and dancing every Thursday through Saturday in the Templeton Lounge and a challenging and scenic Devereux Emmet-designed 18-hole championship golf course. Staying active is easy at the hotel, which has an air-conditioned fitness center on-site, but the main action takes place outside. The hotel offers tennis courts, a heated pool and tons to do on Otsego Lake, whether it’s just taking a dip or renting a canoe, a fishing pole or a paddleboard to explore the natural waters.

Weddings

Despite the fact that the Otesaga Resort is a seasonal hotel, it acts as the perfect venue for weddings year-round. During the summer, guests can enjoy passed hors d’oeuvres and specialty beverages as they stroll along the colonnaded veranda, and in winter, the entire resort can be rented out for a private winter-wonderland wedding. The wedding staff takes care of all the bride and groom’s needs while looking after the well-being of the guests and the surrounding region with its Green Weddings Initiatives program, which includes composting, supplying earth-friendly paper and using local vendors when possible.
