Overland Park, Kansas

Upscale Overland Park, Kansas, blends big-city amenities in a fresh, contemporary setting just 15 minutes from downtown Kansas City. Numerous attractions include the recently opened Prairiefire entertainment and dining district that boasts the Museum at Prairiefire, the first venue outside New York City to continually host the American Museum of Natural History’s traveling exhibitions. The New Theatre Restaurant features Broadway-style musicals and plays starring New York and Hollywood performers. The Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art showcases edgy collections, plus exhibits by local artists. Add in chic shopping and more than 250 restaurants, including the city’s legendary barbecue.

“Overland Park offers a central location in the heart of the country that’s perfect for groups flying in from either coast,” said Overland Park Convention and Visitors Bureau vice president of marketing Liron BenDor. “We offer a fantastic package with Midwestern hospitality to boot.”

As the second-largest municipality in the state, this suburb touts its own Overland Park Convention Center, known for its service and attention to detail. The convention center complex includes the Sheraton Overland Park, which is the largest hotel in Kansas. Three additional full-service properties are located nearby.

“Within 10 minutes of the convention center, you’ll find many terrific restaurants, attractions and entertainment options, making it supremely convenient for groups of all different backgrounds and interests,” said BenDor. “For instance, groups who come in for sports competitions play at premier athletic facilities, and within just a few miles, they can see a dinosaur exhibit at Prairiefire or choose from a dozen different cuisines.”

Sports enthusiasts will be right at home watching Kansas City’s professional sports teams. Rivalries are strong, whether rooting for the NFL Kansas City Chiefs or the MLB Kansas City Royals, who competed in the 2014 World Series. Off-site entertainment includes the MLS Sporting Kansas City and the Kansas City T-Bones, a member of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball. Nearby, NASCAR reigns at the Kansas Speedway, one of the nation’s premier tracks.

“With our proximity to downtown and the entire metropolitan area, attendees can enjoy all of our amenities and have easy access to the city’s performing arts, world-class museums and sporting events,” said BenDor.
