Pere Marquette is back in a big way

Next to the museum, the Caterpillar Visitors Center tells the company’s history through equipment displays and other memorabilia. Among the exhibits is a theater built onto the bed of a replica Caterpillar 797 Mining Truck.

“The addition of the Peoria Marriott Pere Marquette, along with the opening of the Peoria Riverfront Museum and Caterpillar Visitors Center, will have a significant impact on tourism to the area and will also enhance the ability to attract conventions, meetings and sporting events to the area,” said Don Welch, CEO and president of the Peoria Area CVB.

Changes continue. Road work that is part of the $31.8 million, two-year overhaul of the Peoria Warehouse District has begun. The project combines downtown retail and living space and is designed to bring young professionals downtown to live.

Caterpillar, a Fortune 50 company, has announced plans to build a new world headquarters downtown. The company’s president has said that Caterpillar’s board of directors will meet at the Pere Marquette.

Peoria got more good news in mid-June when it learned it was one of 10 cities named an All-America City by the National Civic League. The Young Professionals of Greater Peoria traveled to Denver to make the case for their city to the National Civic League.
