What’s new: Practically everything is new after the historic hotel, closed since 1974, has been renovated. It reopened in 2007. The hotel’s largest ballroom connects the hotel to the Battle House Tower, the tallest building in Alabama; there, in addition to office space, are hotel rooms and the hotel’s spa, fitness center, outdoor rooftop pool and pool bar. In 2010, the hotel became a member of Historic Hotels of America.

Kudos: In 2009, Travel and Leisure named the Battle House one of the top 500 hotels in the world. The hotel and Trellis Room restaurant are AAA Four Diamond. In 2009, the spa was one of Shape Magazine’s “Seven Must-Visit Spas.”

Rooms: There are 238 guest rooms on eight floors, including 31 suites, in the main hotel. The RSA Battle House Tower next door has another 115 guest rooms on four floors.

Meeting space:
The hotel has 27,000 square feet of meeting space in 20 meeting rooms. The 9,268-square-foot Moonlight Ballroom is its largest space.

Amenities:
In addition to the Trellis Room, Mobile’s only AAA Four Diamond restaurant, the hotel has a cafe, a tavern and a poolside bar. There are two outdoor pools, a 10,000-square-foot spa and a gift shop. The hotel is a partner of five area golf courses and part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail Collection.  Wired and wireless Internet access are free.

Getting there:
Most major airlines fly into Mobile Regional Airport, a 20-minute drive from the hotel. Pensacola Gulf Coast Regional Airport is about an hour away. Interstates 10 and 65 meet in Mobile.
