SANTA MONICA, California — The Sandbourne Santa Monica, Autograph Collection officially opened at at the end of May. The new hotel designed by Icelandic architect Gulla Jonsdottir offers a unique 175-room coastal retreat close to the Santa Monica Pier.
The hotel includes expansive event spaces totaling 10,000 square feet across 11 indoor and outdoor, beachside venues. The largest space is the 1,000-square-foot Sea Palm Terrace can seat up to 300 attendees in the scenic, southern California landscape.
Jónsdóttir and her team bring artfully combined textures like woven fibers and soft linens with sleek, polished surfaces, contemporary art pieces, and minimalist accents. The color palette echoes the natural tones of the sand and sea, punctuated by vibrant hues reflecting the vivacity of city life.
The resort’s 175 luxury guest rooms range from King rooms to 660-square-foot ocean-view suites, all with views of Santa Monica or the Pacific Ocean.
Situated with direct access to the iconic Santa Monica Beach, Sandbourne offers a seamless blend of coastal relaxation and urban excitement. Guests can unwind at the cabanas around the heated pool; the poolside Sunset Lounge; or stay active at the state-of-the-art, indoor/outdoor fitness center. Travelers with dogs can bring their pets to the 200-square-foot, on-site dog park. A full-service wellness spa is scheduled to open in 2025.
Sandbourne will feature Artists-in-Residency, inviting a hand-selected group of ceramics artists to apply and participate in the ceramics program. Artists from around the world will have the opportunity to create pieces and showcase their art on-site. Guests are also invited to participate in Ceramics by the Pool, a 45-minute pinch pot clay class. Guided by a local ceramics artist, guests will learn the art of pinch pot clay and craft their creations, resulting in a one-of-a-kind keepsake from their time at Sandbourne.
The culinary scene at Sandbourne is spearheaded by the debut of Marelle, a California-driven restaurant and bar by Santa Monica native, Chef Raphael Lunetta. The California-inspired menu immerses diners in an exploration of texture and taste. Marelle’s dining room and lush outdoor patio house a comprehensive, full-service restaurant and bar. Guests may also enjoy relaxed dining and cocktails at the Sunset Lounge.
Sustainability initiatives are incorporated throughout the resort. The hotel boasts an on-site Bee Hive, which will be utilized by the hotel staff to highlight and elevate the food and beverage programming.
