“We couldn’t have picked a better venue for what ended up being a magical evening,” said Alfaro.

Plans for the SMMC opening are being finalized, but guests will arrive at the pavilion and wander to hors d’ oeuvres stations set up in various areas of the complex. They’ll eat, drink and see some of the pavilion’s venues, including its science center.

As the reception ends, guests will move into Sommervold Hall and take their seats on the stage. Local musicians will play classical music as dinner is served.

The Washington Pavilion is one of Sioux Falls’ most popular event venues because of its versatility and its downtown location, Burnham said. Catering is done by the pavilion’s onsite restaurant, Leonardo’s Cafe.

Qualified meeting planners who attend the 2013 Small Market Meetings Conference, Oct. 6-8, will be reimbursed up to $400 for travel expenses and will receive two complimentary nights at the Sheraton Sioux Falls, the headquarters hotel. Also complimentary to meeting planners are all meals, social events, entertainment and professional education sessions.
