SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Acrobats swung through the atrium of the DoubleTree by Hilton South Bend in celebration of the hotel’s renovation and reflagging in mid-May.

More than 800 guests who attended a ribbon-cutting at the 291-room downtown hotel were treated to food, drink, entertainment and tours. South Bend’s mayor and Rob DeCleene, executive director of Visit South Bend/Mishawaka, were among the speakers during the official reopening ceremony.

Guests sampled offerings at the hotel’s Baker’s Bar and Grille and danced in the grand ballroom to music played by a New York disc jockey.

The renovation of the former Marriott hotel encompassed guest rooms, 15,000 square feet of meeting space, the lobby and the atrium. The hotel now has a Starbucks store and Baker’s, which is a new restaurant concept that offers classic American food, daily drink specials and a Studebaker-themed decor.

The hotel is adjacent to the Century Center convention center, and many of its guest rooms overlook the St. Joseph River.

“We are excited to open our doors and welcome the community to the new DoubleTree by Hilton-South Bend,” said general manager Leonard Clifton. “Our neighbors and friends in the local business community have been very supportive throughout the transition and are delighted to see a fresh, full-service hotel.”

The lobby design is inspired by the University of Notre Dame, whose campus is a few minutes away, with subtle collegiate colors, exposed wood and contemporary furnishings.

The hotel is operated by The Hotel Group (THG), recognized as one of the nation’s top 50 hotel companies.

Doug Dreher, THG president and CEO, said it is a good time to invest in South Bend and its lodging market.

“We’ve always had an affinity for college towns, and South Bend offers a prime location in the center of everything. Our proximity to the Century Center conference facilities coupled with DoubleTree programs and rewards make the rebranded hotel a prime location for business and leisure travelers alike.”

Contemporary guest rooms boast Sweet Dreams by DoubleTree Sleep Experience bedding, and the property offers signature chocolate chip cookies upon arrival, a fitness center, a pool and a business center.
