South Padre Island Convention Centre Completes Major Renovation

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas — The city of South Padre Island and the South Padre Island Convention and Visitors Bureau celebrated the grand reopening of the South Padre Island Convention Centre with a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony this spring, following the center’s multimillion-dollar renovation.

The renovations include a complete restructuring of the convention center’s foundation, solar lighting across the parking lot and outdoor landscape, indoor and outdoor digital signage, dynamic and vivid painting updates of both interior and exterior walls, and installation of new carpeting to complement the new interior color schemes. Further, the renovation also entailed installation of new high-tech air walls in all meeting rooms, natural light enhancements in interior walkways, a kitchen remodel, modern banquet and decorative furniture additions and a fiber-optic network to strengthen Wi-Fi signal and reliability.

“The new Convention Centre renovations have strengthened the building and made it more secure and more aesthetically appealing,” said Barry Patel, mayor of the city of South Padre Island. “The interior renovations provide a fresh look for our convention and meeting attendees to experience, and city staff have done a tremendous job in completing the work on time and under budget.”

With a view of the Laguna Madre Bay, the South Padre Island Convention Centre offers 45,000 square feet of meeting space for meetings, conventions, conferences, trade shows, exhibits and special events. Primary facilities include 22,500 square feet of exhibit hall space with a clear ceiling height of 36 feet for large meetings and sporting events, a 2,633-square-foot conference auditorium for 230 people and 9,000 square feet of breakout space.
