Spokane Convention Center Expansion Nears Completion

SPOKANE, Washington – Right on schedule, officials expect the Spokane Convention Center’s expansion to end by January 2015. The $50 million project adds 91,000 square feet of exhibition and meeting space to the center.

Of the additional space, the Spokane Convention Center exhibit hall will increase by 20,000 square feet, bringing the total to almost 103,000 square feet. The update also includes 25,000 square feet of meeting/ballroom space, 25,000 square feet of public space, and the remaining space going to exterior and waterfront improvements.

Currently, much of the project has already wrapped up with the bulk of the work left to do centering around glass paneling that will completely cover the side of the building overlooking the Spokane River. Officials previously revamped the center in 1989 and 2006.

Plans are also underway for a new 722-room convention hotel with an attached parking garage. Officials expect the neighboring hotel to hold 60,000 square feet of meeting space with a 18,000-square-foot ballroom and over 25 meeting rooms.
