SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A vacant lot will be soon become a meetings and events space as the Ramada Oasis Hotel and Convention Center expands its convention space to 13,000 square feet. A new convention center lobby and an enclosed walkway that connects the convention center to the main hotel building are part of the project.

“Our new convention center will have a tropical elegance, more of a resort atmosphere,” said Missy Handyside, general manager of the Ramada Oasis. “We were really just listening to our groups. They needed more space. They wanted to come to Springfield.”

Bass Pro Shops is also hammering the final nails into its 650-seat White River Convention Center. Built to attract wildlife and conservation-related events, the facility is set to welcome its first event in late February.

“Our local convention and visitors bureau will have a lot more opportunity to sell our city,” said Handyside. “We feel like 2012 is going to be our best year.”
