Survey examines stress levels of business travelers

Do you find yourself more likely to pull out your hair if you have a flight delay or if you have to fly economy? Carlson Wagonlit Travel, a corporate travel agency, recently surveyed 6,000 travelers to determine which aspects of travel caused the most stress for business travelers.

The highest levels of stress reported by travelers resulted from unexpected problems, especially for female travelers. Among the travel glitches were flight delays and lost luggage.

Female travelers also reported higher stress levels on issues that disrupted their normal schedules, such as lack of healthy food options. Alternatively, female travelers were less stressed by flying economy class than were males.

Frequent fliers (more than 30 trips per year) were stressed by different issues than less frequent travelers. For example, frequent fliers said lost time was the most stressful issue they faced. Reimbursement of expenses and flying with a non-preferred airline were two other issues that created more stress for frequent fliers.
